Bali is located on a major fault line where the tectonic Indo Australian plate collides with the Sunda plate, creating its current six volcanoes, several of which are still active, with Mt Agung being the highest at 3,142 metres above sea level. Bali is just to the west of the Wallace Line, thus its rich volcanic soils support a mixture of Asian and Australasian wildlife species plus a cornucopia of tropical produce. The island is surrounded by coral reef, its coastal beaches offer white sand in its south and black in the north and west.
